Red Cross

Red Cross can help locate and provide shelter, food, and water, provide disaster preparedness tips, and sometimes aid with limited financial assistance. Download the free Red Cross Emergency App to receive updates. 

 

California Disaster Legal Aid Helpline

The Legal Aid Helpline is available to eligible residents living in California

 

Disaster Unemployment Assistance

Workers who lose their jobs due to no fault of their own, such as in the case of a disaster, may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits.

The quickest and easiest way to apply is online. Visit the Employment Development Department (EDD) website: www.edd.ca.gov

  • Click on the “Unemployment” link, then on “Apply for UI” (eApply4UI) at the top right of the page. UI claims also can be filed by telephone at 1-800-300-5616.

    • TTY: 1-800-815-9387

FEMA

  • May be able to offer financial assistance to individuals/families after a disaster has impacted their area. The FEMA Helpline may be able to provide additional information or referrals for immediate needs related to a disaster in your area. 
  •  You can also find location options by texting SHELTER and your zip code (for example, “SHELTER 01234”) to 4FEMA (43362). 

 

US Department of Labor (Disaster Unemployment Assistance DUA) 

  • Provides financial assistance to individuals whose employment or self-employment has been lost or interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster and who are not eligible for regular unemployment insurance benefits. 
  • Call 866-487-2365 or go to https://www.dol.gov/general/disasterrecovery 

 

U.S. Small Business Administration

  • Offers disaster assistance in the form of low interest loans to businesses, nonprofit organizations, homeowners, and renters located in regions affected by declared disasters. 
  • Call 877-827-5722 or go to https://www.sba.gov/funding-programs/disaster-assistance  to see if a disaster has been declared in your area. 

 

Crisis Counseling

  • Call or text 800-985-5990 for crisis counseling from SAMHSA’s Disaster Distress Helpline.
    •  Call or text 1-800-985-5990.

Evacuation Terminology Definitions:

  • Evacuation Order: Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access.
  • Evacuation Warning: Potential threat to life and/or property.  Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
  • Shelter In Place: Go indoors. Shut and lock doors and windows. Prepare to self-sustain until further notice and/or contacted by emergency personnel for additional direction.

The National Weather Service is an agency of the United States federal government that is tasked with providing weather forecasts, warnings of hazardous weather, and other weather-related products to organizations and the public for the purposes of protection, safety, and general information.

Air Quality Advisories/Smoke Advisories

Smoke advisories are issued for large fires in or near the South Coast AQMD jurisdiction and are intended to provide a summary of current/past air quality and provide predictions of future smoke impacts.

World Central Kitchen

Multiple WCK food truck partners and their Rapid Response Field Kitchen have been repositioned in the area and will be providing meals to first responders and victims.

Several L.A. County school districts and schools are reporting closures for Wednesday, January 8, 2025 due to the fires and weather conditions in the area. They will likely remain closed Thursday, January 9.
