Disaster Unemployment Assistance
Workers who lose their jobs due to no fault of their own, such as in the case of a disaster, may be eligible for Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits.
The quickest and easiest way to apply is online. Visit the Employment Development Department (EDD) website: www.edd.ca.gov
- Click on the “Unemployment” link, then on “Apply for UI” (eApply4UI) at the top right of the page. UI claims also can be filed by telephone at 1-800-300-5616.

US Department of Labor (Disaster Unemployment Assistance DUA)
- Provides financial assistance to individuals whose employment or self-employment has been lost or interrupted as a direct result of a major disaster and who are not eligible for regular unemployment insurance benefits.

Evacuation Terminology Definitions:
- Evacuation Order: Immediate threat to life. This is a lawful order to LEAVE NOW. The area is lawfully closed to public access.
- Evacuation Warning: Potential threat to life and/or property. Those who require additional time to evacuate, and those with pets and livestock should leave now.
- Shelter In Place: Go indoors. Shut and lock doors and windows. Prepare to self-sustain until further notice and/or contacted by emergency personnel for additional direction.
