Eligibility
Subscribers and covered dependents on Lowe's medical plans with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama (BCBS AL) are eligible for these services.
The difference between the Calm program and mental health and substance use benefits
The calm program offers all Lowe’s employees and household members access to no-cost counseling services - up to ten (10) visits per issue. You do not need to be enrolled in a Lowe’s medical plan to use these no-cost services. You may elect to use these no-cost counseling services before starting outpatient treatment.
See all of the services included in your calm program here.
Your mental health and substance use benefits are part of your overall medical plan benefits with BCBS AL. If you are enrolled in a Lowe’s medical plan with BCBS AL, you will contact Magellan Health for services (1-877-543-3875, press 2, then press 1). Services include outpatient therapy, psychological testing, inpatient care, partial hospitalization, residential treatment, and intensive outpatient programs.
Services that require pre-authorization
You must call to pre-authorize for some services, including all inpatient care, residential treatment, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient programs, outpatient Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT), and psychological testing. Pre-authorization must be obtained for both in-network AND out-of-network services.
To help you reduce your out-of-pocket costs, call Magellan for assistance in finding an in-network counselor, psychiatrist, or facility.

Therapy
A therapist is a licensed mental health professional who helps clients improve their lives, develop better cognitive and emotional skills, reduce symptoms of mental illness and cope with various challenges. Therapy is a time-tested tool that helps people with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief, relationship problems, self-exploration, stress, substance abuse, trauma and more.
There are many misconceptions about what it means to talk to a licensed professional and the stigma associated with it is often the reason people don’t seek help in the first place. However, therapy can help people manage issues, develop coping skills and improve their quality of life.
